The paddle is just as important as the paddleboard. The lighter the paddle, the longer you can paddle. The stiffness of the paddle and shaft in turn affect the effectiveness of the engagement. Paddles for paddleboards are most often used two-piece with adjustable length or a more compact three-piece version. Athletes and racers get a one-piece paddleboard paddle.
